Week two is over in DS106 and I think it went better than last week. Except for the reading assignments (I’m not much for reading) I enjoyed everything in week 2, especially making our own gifs. It’s been many years since I last made a gif so it was refreshing to revisit an old friend. Here are the assignments and some random thoughts.
I think I did a better job with the visual assignments compared to week one. I enjoyed doing them a bit more than last week although that could be do to the subject matter. I will always have fun being able to do anything involving a superhero, this week I used Superman and the Hulk. I also got to throw in a little Godzilla too on my Pokémon card. The total amount of stars I chose was 13.5, meeting the 12 star requirement and the five assignment requirement.
Right now the photo assignments are giving me trouble because I do not like photography. I used to enjoy taking pictures a decade ago but I’d much rather shoot film. When I’m taking pictures I feel like I’m regressing and using an antiquated technology.
One thing that made me a little nervous this week was posting the swimsuit picture I took in the DesignBlitz. While the photo is G rated, people can be uptight and someone could have been offended. In the end I said just put it up, there is so much else going on in the world right now this is very insignificant. People are getting shot, this is just a girl in a bikini. Move on.
My blog is finally feeding to the class on the DS106 page. That was a major pain to get set-up last week as I have never had a blog before and this one will be gone as soon as this class is over. I think I’ll keep my Twitter account though…
The daily creates were fun as usual, the answer to my guess the movie in case it wasn’t obvious was Rocky. If anyone hasn’t seen Rocky sorry I spoiled the ending! I didn’t mention in my neighborhood daily create that West Springfield, MA is where I grew up. I still call it Wes Side to this day and flash a W with my hand when saying it. People always say put the gang symbol away which it is NOT, it’s just a W representing where I grew up.
My question this week is are we going to do some video projects soon? I know stories can be told in photos but I’d like to do more modern stuff like film shorts, creating special effects, etc. Something random and unexpected like the gif assignment we had would be fun too.
